Hello 4th graders,
Wow, I have to say I am very honored tp be considered to be the expert on fantasy books and I would love to answer any questions you might have.
I started reading fantasy books when I was pretty young. I think I was maybe even in 1st grade. I don't remember the title of the book but I remember a part where a kid looked over a tall hill and on the other side the sky was full of huge DRAGONS!! From that point on I was hooked. I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
Now to answer some of your questions. Some of the fantasy books out there are easy reads and they tell really good stories. Stories about BIG adventures to places that haven't been seen in thousands of years. Stories of good heroes, not that much older than you, who have fight harder than they ever have before to defeat evil monsters and save people they love very much. I always enjoyed books where the hero didn't know how he was going to win, but still fought as hard as he could anyway because he had to save a brother or mother. Fantasy books are just filled with adventurous atories like this.
Some of the easier books I would recommend would be the Redwall books, the Sword of Gibraltor books, the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe series, The Chronicles of Prydain Series, and The Spirit Flyer Books. I couldn't stop reading these books when I was your age.
Some books are harder to read and a little longer too. Like the hobbit and Fellowship of the Ring books, and the Sword of Shannara series. These are harder and longer, but still worth the read if you want to try. Ms. Te Slaa would be able to help you decide.
I would suggest any of the easier books I mentioned for you guys to start out with. And when your reading them take your time and enjoy what you are reading and imagine that YOU are the hero and imagine YOU can see the world there living in. This way it will be FUN and you'll look forward to the next time you can pick them up and read them again.
I hope I answered some of your questions. Have an awesome Christmas Vacation.
